Mullican Flooring, a national hardwood flooring manufacturer, is more than doubling its employee base in Tennessee and moving its Johnson City, Tenn.-based corporate headquarters and production plant to a new location across town.
Mullican’s new 309,000-square-foot office, warehouse and manufacturing facility will occupy 24 acres at 655 Woodlyn Road. The new site will enable the company to add 164 employees and a new production line for engineered hardwood flooring.
Mullican’s expansion, which represents a $12 million investment over the next three years, returns a segment of the company’s engineered flooring production - previously sourced in Asia - back to U.S. soil.
“We believe we’re on the leading edge of a trend by U.S. manufacturers to shift jobs back to American soil,” said Neil Poland, president, Mullican Flooring. “This is largely possible due to the high quality of the workforce that is available in our own Johnson City area. We’re extremely excited to be making this move and look forward to gaining momentum in the market as our economy continues to recover in the coming months.”
Mullican Flooring currently employs 130 people at its existing Johnson City plant located on University Parkway. These employees will be relocated to the new facility during the first quarter of 2012. With the expansion and relocation, Mullican anticipates employing close to 300 people at its new headquarters by 2015.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam commended Mullican for making the investment at a recent Economic Development Summit held in Johnson City.
“We are excited about Mullican’s expansion plans and look forward to working with the company as they ramp up production in Johnson City,” said Haslam.
